Sixteen suspects in Limpopo are including a police constable are in police custody after they were caught in possession of illicit cigarettes and drugs.

The suspects aged between 25 and 41 were arrested in the sting operation in the early hours of Saturday morning.  “Items recovered during these operations include two motor vehicles, one firearm, ammunition, illicit cigarettes, drugs, and dagga,” said the police’s Moatshe Ngoepe.

Ngoepe added that the 36-year-old police officer, stationed at the Apel police station, was handcuffed during a stop and search and was found to be in possession of 20 sachets of nyaope. A firearm and ammunition were seized from the police officer.

Meanwhile, in the Eastern Cape, a man was arrested in Dutywa in what’s being described as one of the biggest recent dagga busts in the province. The suspect was nabbed in the CBD on Friday while he was transporting cannabis worth an estimated R1 million. He was headed to Port Elizabeth when traffic officers on patrol searched his vehicle.
