The lawyer representing former Bosasa executive Angelo Agrizzi has shocked the Palmridge courthouse on Wednesday as he implied that the company’s former CEO, Gavin Watson, may have possibly faked his own death in August 2019.
The lawyer made the shocking statement this morning as his client Agrizzi was in the dock to face corruption and fraud charges.
The charge is related to gratifications Agrizzi allegedly gave to former ANC MP Vincent Smith in the form of security upgrades to his home and cash transferred into his personal bank account via a Euroblitz bank account.
These gratifications were allegedly in exchange for the use of Smith’s political influence as a ruling party MP to shield Bosasa from accountability for corrupt officials in the correctional services department who had awarded Bosasa contracts worth billions of rand.
Smith’s case was postponed until December 3. The state had opposed bail for Agrizzi, arguing that he had failed to disclose the extent of his assets in SA and offshore.
Prosecutor Arno Rossouw argued that the court needed sufficient information to ensure a bail applicant would not abscond after being granted bail.
“The problem is not that the applicant [Agrizzi] has assets offshore. The problem is that he failed to declare those assets to the court when he applied for bail,” he said.
Meanwhile, the highlight of the day was when Daniel Witz addressed the court and talked about his client’s relationship with Gavin Watson. He delved straight into the most suspected conspiracy-territory, hinting that the former CEO may still be alive.
The bombshell is being dropped just a few weeks after South Africans apparently noticed how Gavin Watson had logged into a Zoom call, forgetting to hide his identity. This rumour was never verified, but it spread like wildfire.
The details of Mr Watson’s death are still highly questionable as he was well known for his love of luxurious sports cars but it was reported and that he died driving a Toyota Corrola and there were no blood traces on the alleged car.
