Sindiswa Dlathu also known as Madlabantu has been killing her villain role on the River, she recently won a Royalty Soapie Award for her role. Sindiswa is an award-winning South African actress and singer, she is well known for her role on Muvhango as Thandaza and The River as Lindiwe.
Sindi has managed to take the entertainment industry to another level and after her departure from SABC 2’s Muvhango she has clearly shown us how diverse and talented she is. Dlathu was born in January 1974 in Meadowlands, Soweto in Johannesburg and has a twin sister named Zanele Sangweni.
The actress is one of many celebrities who are very hush hush about their personal lives, but we do know that she has two children and is married to Okielant Nkosi.
At the tender age of 12 she entered a talent competition titled Ashell Road Fame but unfortunately didn’t win the competition but was one of the finalists. Upon her not winning the competition she was later mentored by the Mahottela Queens.
About three years after she decided to enter a miming competition where she played out “let it be” by Aretha franklin front of the Beatles tune and to her surprise she won that competition. Winning the miming competition gave her the motivation to go and audition for the play titled Sarafina where she got a role and got the opportunity to and perform in the United States.
Whilst she was in the USA with the Sarafina cast she met Randy Crawford who identified her talent and asked her to remain in the states, so she could perform with her. Later on she also joined a stage play by Duma Ka Ndlovu called The Game.
Most of us grew up seeing her on Muvhango little did we know that her role was initially cast as a minor, and she took it with both hands and grew with it up until the year 2018. She spent over two decades on the soapie and that really helped her build a name for herself in the industry.
Since she has left Muvhango we saw her joining One Magic’s The River where she plays the role of a ruthless woman who is willing to do anything for her family and her loved one.
Her character Lindiwe Madlabantu Dlamini-Dikana, is a successful mine owner who also happens to be happily married to a police commissioner, and they have a wonderful happy family together, but behind closed doors she’s something else.
Sindi not only acts on the telenovela, but she is also the vocalist of the theme song for The River. She recently won an award for the best actress in a telenovela and Mzansi seems to be acknowledging her talent.
