Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) believes that the African National Congress (ANC) and the government used the lockdown due to Covid-19 to “immorally” loot state resources and the lockdown benefitted only the government.

EFF said that they are aware of the President Ramaphosa’s announcement on the response to the lockdown’s effects. They also said that they will be closely monitoring the government’s programmes and responses.

“Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, the South African government’s response has been less than satisfactory, defined by non-disclosure of important data indicators, such as the demographic profiles of those became infected and/or died from Covid-19,” said EFF spokesperson Vuyani Pambo.

He continued: “Instead of localisation of the key product and equipment needed to fight Covid-19, Ramaphosa’s administration chose to prioritise tenderpreneurs who immorally looted state resources for personal benefit.”

He also said that government’s economic response, including the R500 billion for previous response, package empty promises of a grant for unemployed people and the mishandling of the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) is a great illustration that this government does not care about black people but white people and companies.

EFF said they will continue to prioritise the lives of the people.
