The One South African Movement (OSA) Chief Activist, Mmusi Maimane is calling upon politicians to do away with division politics. He is of the view that people should accept SA as diverse country.

“We must move painful historic symbols from public spaces, they are rightfully positioned in academic spaces such as museums where their contextual significance can be appropriately explained,” he said.

However, he said the cultural moment must not be built on division but a common and forward-looking unity. Symbols that celebrate a painful past do not help to come together, they open old wounds daily.

“To move forward we must remove them from the public fora. We must avoid being dragged into the culture wars pulling America apart,” Maimane said.

Chief Activist believes in unity, however, he remains certain about building one South Africa for all, regadless of race.
