Nelisa Mchunu who is well known for her role as Fikile on SABC 1’s soapie Uzalo was born and raised in Wartburg, KwaZulu- Natal in the year 1992. She was raised by her single mother together with her two brothers, whilst her father lived in Clermont with her other 10 siblings from her dad’s side.
One of Nelisa’s siblings is also an actress Londeka Mchunu who starred on Mzansi Magic’s Isithembiso, who played the role of Sinegugu.
After her high school years Nelisa decided to go and study media studies at Wits University, of which was not her first choice as she wanted to study Drama, but her mom didn’t approve of her choice.
During her time in University Nelisa’s mom could not afford to pay for her fees anymore and in her third year she had to drop out and find a job.
Nelisa then got herself a job as a waitress and as time went by, she was working as an assistant for some Public Relations company.
In the year 2014 Nelisa made her first television debut as an extra on SABC 3’s Isidingo. She also took part in the 48-hour film project titled “Heads of tails”.
Her big break came in June 2016 when she landed herself a supporting role as Fikile on SABC 1’s Uzalo. Since then Nelisa has proved herself beyond measure alongside his on camera boyfriend Simphiwe Majozi better known as Sbu, she has now become one of the main characters on the soapie.
