Health Minister Zweli Mkhize on Friday, as he was giving updates on Covid-19 pandemic. He hinted most people die before being diagnosed, they may have died of Covid-19 some may not have.
Mkhize said only natural that the country has an excess of deaths during the pandemic.
In addition, he said it’s a common in most countries that people are dying from Covid-19 in numbers. Some people lose lives at home, and there is no one to tell whether their death are Covid-19 related of not.

“It’s common in most countries. Some people die at home, and there is no telling whether their deaths are from COVID19 or not,” said Mkhize.
He alluded their health department has to start interacting with funeral services, to find out whether the person had the symptoms of Covid-19 or not. In order to classify death properly.
Mkhize said excess death is into two groups, there may be those who died with symptoms suggesting virus but have not been diagnosed, however, it’s hard to tell whether is Covid-19 or not.
He said on other side there is a group of people who are suffocating from other diseases but they couldn’t go to hospital as they felt safe at home.
Mkhize said they encourage people to be in hospitals when they are sick rather than staying at home.
