The Congress of South African Students (Cosas) is threatening to shut down all private schools, since the president did not hint about their closure.
However, Private schools are set to go for an academic holidays for the whole month of August.
Cosas spokesperson Douglas Ngobeni, said they don’t care whether they are closing or not but they are certain to help them way out of schools.
“Even if they’re closing but we still going to help them way out of their schools, because we care about safety of all children,” said Ngobeni.
He added that although private schools will be closed for a month, even when is time to return they will be at their schools to stop them from returing to their classes.
”This is repatriation process, we are saving lives of people,” he said.
This follows the President’s address on Thursday when he spoke about the closure of schools on Monday, due to pandemic peaktime. However, Cosas’s view is that those in private will have an academic advantage while public are left behind.
The president said grade 12s as an imperative class will only have 7 days break and after they will resume with their classes. This has also resulted from government officials who couldn’t deliver the PPE’s.
Ngobeni alleded that private primises are suitable for attendance, however, lives matter more than profit they want to make through schools.
