Criminals Arrested After Being Caught In The Act Attempting To Break-in

One of the culprits was arrested while trying to escape from the scene. The criminals were found in possession of a bolt cutter, crowbar, wheel spanner, and steel bar which they allegedly used to try to gain access to the premises.

Durban cops have arrested criminals after they caught them in the act, Central South African Police Service members commented on the reports of an attempted burglary at a West Street business on Monday 4 May 2020 at night.

Police arrived on the scene just right on the time to find two criminals trying to break in into the business premises in the Durban’s CBD.

One of the culprits was arrested while trying to escape from the scene. The criminals were found in possession of a bolt cutter, crowbar, wheel spanner, and steel bar which they allegedly used to try to gain access to the premises.

No property was reported missing, but it is said that their force entry to break into the business left the premises with some outer damage.

The duo was facing charges of housebreaking implements and burglary. One of the men faces more criminal charges as it has been learned that he is an unauthorized immigrant.

“Last night, the police officers from Durban Central SAPS together with Metro police responded to a complaint of a burglary in progress at business premises situated on West Street,” SAPS spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said on Tuesday 5 May 2020

“Upon arrival at the scene, they were informed that unknown suspects broke into the premises. Investigations were conducted, and the suspects were spotted on the rooftop of the building. A suspect was arrested while the other was arrested while trying to flee the scene. Both suspects aged 28 and 30 were placed under arrest. They were found in possession of a bolt cutter, crowbar, wheel spanner, and steel bar.”

“A 30-year-old suspect was also charged for being undocumented. The suspects were charged for possession of housebreaking implements and burglary.”

SAPS says “the arrested suspects will be profiled to check if they can be linked to other burglary cases committed in Durban and surrounding areas.”

The culprits are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court next week.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula approved the arrest of the culprits.
