Sofia Swaleh who is serving a life sentence spoke on behalf of other inmates claiming that the time allowed to their visiting partners and relatives is too brief and does not allow for sexual intimacy.
“The Government, through the leadership of Kenyan prisons, should introduce a law that allows women serving lengthy jail terms to enjoy sexual intimacy with their visiting partners.”
Purity Nkatha Muthaura, who is Mtangani GK Prison senior administrator told K24 Digital that it would be impossible to allow the female inmates or even the male inmates to have sex with their visiting partners unless the parliament passes a new law to permit that.
However, similar request, to allow inmates to have sexual intimacy with visiting partners was made in 2014, but the Government ruled out the possibility of allowing such request on the ground that they are not allowed to have any pleasure as part of their punishment.
