South Africa is facing a huge crisis, on Sunday violence erupted in Jeppestown, Johannesburg after criminals looted and torched foreign-owned shops. As we woke up on Monday the looting and burning down of foreign-owned businesses intensified.

South Africans have carried inhumane and lawless action by claiming that they are cleaning up the country and they are calling for the foreign nations to leave. It is very perplexing that the action they chose was to loot the shops, burn down properties belonging to foreigners and other acts which are nothing more than criminal activities.

The violence has spread into the following parts of South Africa especially Gauteng Province: Malvern, Tembisa, Jeppestown, Johannesburg CBD and Pretoria.

The looting and burning of shops in Malvern and Jeppestown need to be characterised correctly, it is Economic sabotage and terrorism designed to impoverish workers and small business owners. The arson and the criminal acts have caused millions of rands of damages. 

The provincial commissioner said that it is a sad day when people choose to capitalise on the misfortune of others to advance anarchy and criminality. Lieutenant-General Mawela has further called on members of the public to refrain from public violence whereby police have noted with concern acts of violence circulating on social media.”
