Joe Biden and Harris in a fresh battle. Democrats battling with who will best represent them in the November 2020 presidential election against Republican candidate Donald Trump is pulling a huge controversy already.
The party’s presidential candidate Joe Biden is facing a huge opposition for his record on race in a televised debate with nine rivals.
Senator Kamala Harris actually attacked him for touting his past work with prejudiced senators and for opposing a policy to promote diversity in schools in the past.
The Democrats top 20 presidential aspirants will be examined until a winner emerged at the party convention next summer. The winner automatically carries the flag to face Donald Trump in the November 2020 presidential election.
The Biden and Harris fight actually started midway through Thursday’s second forum in Miami, Florida.
Meanwhile, Ms Harris is the only black woman in the Democratic party. She ridiculed Joe Biden by relating to his work decades ago in the Senate with other Democrats who favored segregation of the races.
Harris said: “I do not believe you are a racist and I agree with you when you commit yourself to the importance of finding common ground.
“But I also believe, and it’s personal and I was actually very, it was hurtful to hear you talk about the reputations of two United States senators who built their reputations and career on the segregation of race in this country.”
She further reminded him of his political advocacy in the mid-1970s against sending white children by bus to majority-black schools in other neighbourhoods, and vice versa.
“And it was not only that,” the 54-year-old said, “but you also worked with them [racist senators] to oppose bussing. And there was a little girl in California who was part of the second class to integrate her public school and she was bussed to school every day. And that little girl was me.”
Joe Biden immediately fought back, “It’s a mis-characterization of my position across the board. I did not praise racists. That is not true.”
He also claimed to have “detested” the segregationists’ views last week.
Ms Harris insisted and challenged Joe Biden to denounce his past opposition to bussing issue. But Joe Biden insisted he was only against the policy being mandated by the federal government, but had no problem with its implementation at a state level.
To exonerate himself, Joe Biden brought up his two terms as vice-president to Barack Obama, America’s first black commander-in-chief.
Republican president Donald Trump only comment in respect to the battle going on with the democrat candidates was what he said on Twitter.
All Democrats just raised their hands for giving millions of illegal aliens unlimited healthcare. How about taking care of American Citizens first!? That’s the end of that race!
