Volocopter is the world first manned, all packed electric and very safe vertical take off and landing (VTOL) aircraft. In your imagination, it might look like something completely out of a sci-fi movie which would be realised in a distant future, and that is if ever it will be realized, but this vehicle will be released in major cities around the world in 2020.

This vehicle invention was one of the major highlights from the Greentech festival, an event in Berlin which was aimed at showcasing the technology and possibilities of a more classy tomorrow. The festival is an intelligent put-together of former Formula-One world champion Nico Rosberg, who has now turned off from the gas-guzzling life of an F1 driver, and has now become an eco warrior.

“It’s not in 10 years’ time, it’s at the end of next year that it will be commercialized. In places like Dubai, Singapore and Germany. It’s just phenomenal because this is going to revolutionize the way we move and it’s going to decongest cities as well because we can quite easily use the airspace much more.” Rosberg told CNN’s Supercharged.

”The volocopter which is designed to take off and land vertically will offer much more higher degree of safety.” The German Volocopter company said, ”and will drop off and pick up passengers and swap batteries in ‘Volo-Hubs’ and ‘Volo-Ports,” it added.

Volocopter was designed based on drone technology. The Manufacturers said that the batteries will be swapped by robots before continuing a new journey. The vehicle is aiming to carry 100,000 passengers at every one hour across the world within the next 10 years.

Volocopter was powerfully designed to have such features like emission-free and giving off a very minimal sound against the background noise of cities. The target if for the vehicle to carry two people up to 27 kilometers.

You may think this is a special invention for the rich and mighty ones in the society, but Rosberg says it will be affordable like the price of a normal taxi out there.

“Of course there are some challenges remaining but the most fascinating aspect of it: It’s not just for the rich and wealthy because once it goes autonomous, it will cost only as much as a taxi costs nowadays,” Rosberg explains.

“So it will really be accessible to a lot of people and I think that’s the power of it. The future of greentech is that it’s coming now! And it’s not a compromise anymore, it’s not like you need to forfeit something.

“It’s cool, it’s sustainable, it’s most of the time even cheaper, so it’s here to stay and I really hope we all learn to embrace it because it’s very, very powerful and will have a great big impact.”

I’m sure we can’t wait to have it. Just wait a little bit more till next year, while they fix the remaining challenge, but before that enjoy photos of it.
