WhatsApp is fixing a new feature that will help you determine whether an image that is sent to you is real of fake. Those who usually send friends a downloaded image from the internet when their image is requested will soon pack-up.
While picking apart update 2.19.73, WABetaInfo found a ‘search by image’ key that will allow you upload image directly to Google after you recieved to verify the image on the web.
WhatsApp want you to be able to judge more accurately whether the picture is real, or fake news spreading around.
Don’t border fight your phone yet, because WhatsApp have not yet rolled out the feature and hasn’t also when exactly it’s coming to users phone. But we are sure it would make another useful tool in WhatsApp’s arsenal against the spreading of fake-news.
Talking about the adverse effect of fake-news, India has been badly affected by malicious message forwarding which was the reason the social network company imposed anti-forwarding limits, as well as forwarding notifications. So adding an image verification feature like this will be a huge plus in combating fake-news.
