200 Left Homeless As Blaze Destroys Hoedspruit Informal Settlement In Limpopo

Around 200 residents have been left without homes after a fierce blaze tore through the Plastic View informal settlement in Hoedspruit, Limpopo, destroying several shacks and belongings.

According to Maruleng Municipal spokesperson, Justice Shipalana, there were no fatalities or injuries reported following the incident.

“Firefighters responded to the emergency but most shacks had been burnt down,” said Shipalana.

He confirmed that the cause of the fire is still under investigation, as authorities work to determine how the blaze started.

Fire Leaves Families Devastated in Hoedspruit

The exact hour the fire broke out can not be determined as yet, but it rapidly spread through the densely packed informal settlement before emergency crews could contain it. Many families have lost everything, including identification documents, clothing, and household items.

“We have provided temporary shelter for the fire victims,” Shipalana added, noting that municipal officials are assisting displaced residents with basic necessities.

Authorities Investigating Cause of Limpopo Shack Fire

Emergency services and municipal authorities are continuing their investigations to establish what triggered the fire. Meanwhile, disaster relief teams remain on site, offering food and temporary accommodation to affected families.

Local organisations have also been urged to contribute donations to help those impacted by the tragedy rebuild their lives.
