20-Year-Old Arrested Over Westbury Mass Shooting That Killed Two Teenagers

Gauteng police have confirmed the arrest of a 20-year-old man in connection with the Westbury mass shooting that left two teenagers dead and five others wounded.

The suspect was arrested on Wednesday, 29 October, following a joint operation led by the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) and Crime Intelligence. The shooting, which shocked the Westbury community last week, occurred on Croesus Street when four suspects — three of them armed — allegedly opened fire on a group of seven teenagers.

The victims were identified as 18-year-old Tigan du Plessis and 17-year-old Diegan Ryters.

Arrest Made After Tip-Off

Police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili said officers acted on crucial intelligence that led them to the suspect’s location at a high school in Diepkloof, Soweto.

“Upon arrival, AGU members positively identified the 20-year-old suspect and placed him under arrest,” said Muridili.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 31 October 2025.

Investigation Continues as Police Hunt for Remaining Suspects

Muridili confirmed that investigations are ongoing to locate the remaining suspects. Two of the five injured victims have since been discharged from hospital.

“The SAPS urges the public to assist in the investigation by providing any relevant information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects by calling the SAPS Crime Stop line at 08600 10111. Callers can remain anonymous,” she said.

Police previously confirmed they are aware of the suspects’ identities and are intensifying efforts to bring them to justice.
