2 Suspects Arrested For Murder And Hijacking After Tip-Off

KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested two suspects linked to the hijacking and murder of a 52-year-old motorist in Avoca Hills, following an intelligence tip-off.

The suspects, aged 27 and 30, were apprehended after being spotted during a surveillance operation at the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court last week.

Arrests Followed Surveillance At Ntuzuma Court

The arrest of the two suspects came after an extensive surveillance operation led by Greenwood Park police. According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo, the suspects are accused of the brutal murder of a 52-year-old man in Avoca Hills.

Reports indicate that the victim was sitting in his vehicle when he was approached by the suspects, who shot him before stealing his car.

The victim succumbed to gunshot injuries on the scene.

His vehicle was later recovered in the Maphumulo area. The two suspects are due to appear in court today, March 17, 2025, where further investigations into their involvement in other crimes will continue.

Hijacking And Murder Investigation In Avoca Hills

Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team was first alerted to the deadly hijacking on February 20, 2025, when three armed suspects hijacked a blue Chevrolet bakkie in Avoca Hills.

During the hijacking, the driver was shot and later died from his injuries.

The hijacked vehicle was tracked and recovered later that evening in the Maphumulo area, prompting an extensive investigation by Greenwood Park SAPS and Marshall Security’s Trio Crimes Unit.

The team worked together to retrieve crucial CCTV footage, which helped identify the suspects.

Tip-Off Leads To Firearm Recovery And Additional Links To Other Crimes

On March 13, 2025, a tip-off led the Special Operations Team to the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court, where the two suspects were attending an unrelated case.

Surveillance confirmed their identities, and they were swiftly arrested.

Further questioning revealed the location of the firearm used in the hijacking and murder.

The weapon was recovered at a house in Inanda. Investigations also connected the suspects to another hijacking and murder in Quarry Heights, where a white Isuzu bakkie was stolen. The vehicle was later found abandoned in the Maphumulo area.

Marshall Security managing director Tyron Powell commended the collaboration between various law enforcement agencies and praised the role of intelligence-led investigations in bringing dangerous criminals to justice.

He also acknowledged the commitment of all parties involved in combating crime in the region.

“This operation was successful following collaborations from respective authorities, this goes a long way to show the importance of coordinated responses to combat serious crimes and ensure that criminals are held accountable,” Powell said.
