2 Men Killed, One Severely Injured In Mob Justice Attack In Ga-Masemola, Sekhukhune District

Police in Masemola, under the Sekhukhune District, are investigating two counts of murder following a mob justice attack in Mahlakole Section, Ga-Masemola village, on Wednesday, 20 August 2025.
The incident unfolded at around 16:00 when a group of enraged community members assaulted three men accused of being involved in a burglary at a local store.

When officers arrived at the scene, they managed to rescue the victims from the violent crowd.
Emergency medical services rushed the men to a nearby hospital, but by 18:30, police confirmed that two of the victims, aged 29 and 34, had died from their injuries. The third victim, aged 32, sustained severe injuries and remains in critical condition.
Police Condemn Mob Justice and Urge Calm
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, condemned the incident and emphasised the dangers of mob justice.
“Mob justice is a serious crime that often results in the loss of lives, while also hampering legitimate police investigations,” she said.
Authorities have urged communities to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and instead work with law enforcement to ensure justice is carried out lawfully.
Call for Information as Investigations Continue
Police are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying those involved in the attack.
