Two Men Arrested At Kosi Bay With Fraudulently Stamped Mozambican Passports

Two men have been arrested after being found in possession of Mozambican passports that were fraudulently stamped, raising concerns about border security at one of South Africa’s busiest crossings.

The Border Management Authority (BMA) confirmed that the suspects were intercepted at the Kosi Bay Border Post in northern KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday during routine border operations.

According to the authority, the arrests followed suspicious documentation checks, which led officials to establish that the passports carried fraudulent entry stamps.

Men Bribery attempt at Kosi Bay Border Post

BMA spokesperson Mmemme Mogotsi said the situation escalated when the suspects allegedly attempted to bribe border officials with more than R34,000 in an effort to avoid being taken into custody.

“When the bribery attempt failed, the suspects resisted arrest and as a result, BMA officials acted decisively, and both suspects were subsequently arrested and charged with fraud, resisting arrest and bribery,” Mogotsi said.

The two men now face multiple charges, including fraud, bribery and resisting arrest. The BMA said the incident highlights ongoing efforts by authorities to clamp down on document fraud and corruption at South Africa’s ports of entry.

Officials reiterated their commitment to strengthening border controls and warned travellers that any attempt to use fraudulent documents or bribe officers would be met with swift legal action.
