17 Year Old Sentenced To 60 Years For Raping Three Boys

A 17-year-old Northern Cape teenager has been sentenced to 60 years in jail for raping three minor boys, aged four, six, and eight, on several occasions since 2021.

The sentenced teenager, who cannot be named according to the law, was found guilty on several counts of rape in the Calvinia Regional Court.

Rise Of Rape Cases

The teenager’s modus operandi before he was sentenced, was to accost his victims when they were playing soccer alone.

North West police spokesperson Colonel Cherelle Ehlers condemned the teenager’s actions and commended the actions of authorities that led the perpetrator being sentenced.

The Northern Cape Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, expressed concern over the rise in heinous crimes involving child victims and offenders.

Justice For Victims

The court ordered the teenager to serve 12 years imprisonment for each count of rape, with the sentences running concurrently.

On Friday, March 28, 2025, the teenager was sentenced for five counts of rape

Lieutenant General Otola commended the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer David Matthys, and the State Prosecutor Darryl Bromkamp for their part in ensuring justice.

The police commissioner emphasized the need to create awareness and prevent similar crimes.
