11th Woman Found Dead in Ekurhuleni as Springs Body Discovered Near Railway Line

Police have discovered the 11th woman’s body in Ekurhuleni since July, after a woman was found dead in an open veld near a railway line in Springs on Sunday, 27 September 2026.

The discovery was made near Rhokana Road after a security company vehicle travelling through the area spotted the body and alerted authorities. The woman was reportedly found half-naked and appeared to have been strangled.

Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) Springs unit were called to the scene shortly after midday.

Police said the body was located in an open area close to the railway line, prompting the mobilisation of several specialised teams. The latest discovery comes only hours after police arrested a suspect allegedly linked to the 10th woman’s body found in Ekurhuleni.

11th Woman’s Body In Ekurhuleni Found Near Springs Railway Line

The 11th woman’s body in Ekurhuleni was discovered at approximately 12:00 on Sunday after security personnel noticed what appeared to be a body while patrolling the area.

The security company immediately contacted police, who attended the scene and began processing the area. SAPS said the woman’s death is now being investigated as part of the wider Ekurhuleni murder cases.

“On Sunday, 27 September 2026, at approximately 12:00, Saps Springs responded to a crime scene where a body was discovered in an open veld near Rhokana Road. A security company vehicle patrolling the area noticed the body and alerted the police.”

The circumstances surrounding the woman’s death have not yet been fully established. Preliminary observations indicated that she appeared to have been strangled, while reports stated that she was found half-naked. Police have not yet released her identity or provided further details about how she died.

Ekurhuleni Murder Cases: Police Mobilise Task Team After 11th Body

Police have brought several specialised units into the investigation following the discovery of the 11th woman’s body in Ekurhuleni. The operation includes the task team dealing with the series of murder cases, crime scene management, Investigative Psychology Services (IPS), detectives and Crime Intelligence. SAPS said the teams have been mobilised to assist with the investigation into the latest death.

“All necessary roleplayers have been mobilised, including the task team investigating the Ekurhuleni murder cases, crime scene management, Investigative Psychology Services (IPS), detectives and Crime Intelligence.”

The police have yet to disclose whether anyone has been arrested in connection with the Springs case. SAPS said investigators would provide additional information once the preliminary investigation had been completed. The latest death brings the number of women’s bodies discovered in Ekurhuleni since July to 11, while another body was found in Soweto during September.

10th Woman’s Body In Ekurhuleni: Suspect Arrested In Tzaneen

The discovery of the 11th woman’s body in Ekurhuleni followed the arrest of a suspect linked to the 10th body found in the area.

That woman was discovered at Mooifontein Cemetery in Thembisa on Saturday, 26 September 2026, with police later locating a suspect in Tzaneen, Limpopo, that same evening. Acting national police commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane subsequently praised Gauteng police for the arrest.

“I commend this multidisciplinary team for their swift response, coordination and determination, which resulted in the apprehension of the suspect on the same day. This is the kind of policing we expect from our members. We will continue to pursue perpetrators of murder and gender-based violence and femicide and ensure that they face the full might of the law,” said Dimpane.

The arrest is linked to the investigation into the woman whose body was found at Mooifontein Cemetery and is separate from the investigation into the latest Springs discovery. Police have not indicated whether the suspect is connected to any of the other cases under investigation in Ekurhuleni. Investigations into the latest death remain ongoing.
