10 Gunmen Break Into Limpopo Home, Make Off With Stokvel Money

As the festive season draws near, the spirit of celebration is in the air — but so too is a rise in criminal activity. From weddings to year-end parties, South Africans are preparing for joyful gatherings, while criminals are plotting to profit from others’ hard-earned money.
Police have urged residents to stay alert and take extra precautions as reports of stokvel-related crimes increase across the country.
In Limpopo, authorities have launched an urgent manhunt after a violent house robbery in Malamulele left a family traumatised and without their savings.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the incident occurred on Tuesday night when a 43-year-old woman was asleep with her children at their home in Xigamani village. About ten armed men allegedly forced their way inside.
“The suspects threatened the victims and demanded money,” said Ledwaba. “They then ransacked the house and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, believed to be stokvel money, as well as a cellphone, before fleeing the scene on foot.”
